These 3 Hopeful Songs From the 70s Remind Us That Life Is Worth Living

“Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac

This Fleetwood Mac song, in a chic rocker type of way, is the ultimate anthem of hope. “Don’t Stop” promises that tomorrow is always on the horizon. When you’re having a bad moment, you don’t have to wait too long for a new, better day.

“Magic” by Pilot

This song by Pilot puts a positive spin on a regular day. “Magic” is all about romanticizing even life’s most mundane moments. In this 1975 interview, David Paton of Pilot says he drew inspiration for “Magic” from his day-to-day life. He wrote the song with Billy Lyall.

“It was in Edinburgh and a place called the Blackfoot Hills, that’s where I bought my house forever, and I used to watch the sunrise coming up at six o’clock in the morning,” he explained. “I used to be delivering milk, and that’s how I got the inspiration for magic.”

“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor

Dino Fekaris was inspired to write this song after having his own “I Will Survive” moment. As the story goes, the guy got fired as a staff writer from Motown Records. Soon after, he saw one of his songs on television and was encouraged not to give up. He worked on this song with Freddie Perren, who had also formerly worked at Motown.

Gaynor was first touched by the song’s lyrics, which, even without production behind them, are a beacon of hope.
