Country music had a fine year in 1965, and many a baby boomer got to enjoy some of the best that the genre had to offer. If you got to hear the following four songs when they first hit the radio, I bet you still remember every word. Let’s get a little nostalgic!

“There Goes My Everything” by Jack Greene from ‘There Goes My Everything’

This classic from Jack Greene has since become a country music standard, and I can definitely see why. This heartbreaker of a breakup tune formed the soundtrack for plenty of splits back in 1965, and those who weren’t dealing with love lost loved it, too. “There Goes My Everything” peaked at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and would later be covered by the likes of Elvis Presley,  Engelbert Humperdinck, and others.

“Girl On The Billboard” by Del Reeves from ‘Girl On The Billboard’

This country hit by Del Reeves was written by Hank Mills and Walter Haynes. Reeves really made it his own, though. “Girl On The Billboard” remains his only No. 1 hit single of his career. And what a great song to be known for. “Girl On The Billboard” topped the Hot Country Singles chart. It also did quite well on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart, where it peaked at No. 31.

“King Of The Road” by Roger Miller from ‘The Return Of Roger Miller’

This cynical humor-drenched country tune is easily one of Roger Miller’s most famous songs. If not his most famous song period. “King Of The Road” scored a whopping five Grammy Awards in 1966 and was a crossover hit on several charts. It topped the US country charts and the UK pop charts. “King Of The Road” also reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

“Before You Go” by Buck Owens from ‘Before You Go’

I couldn’t leave Buck Owens off this list, considering he was a constant figure on the country charts in 1965 with many honky tonk tunes loved by baby boomers around the US. I went with “Before You Go” for this list, considering the tune was a No. 1 hit on the Hot Country Singles chart. Listen to it once, and you’ll probably never forget it. This was classic country music at its finest.
