“At Seventeen” by Janis Ian might not teleport us to the best parts of our youth, but it teleports us just the same. Anyone who grew up awkward, conventionally unattractive, or lonely can relate to the intense melancholy Ian imbues in this tender, vulnerable ballad. The song itself is honestly a pretty sad listen. Nevertheless, there is something cathartic about commiserating over those negative experiences. If everyone went through it, too, then maybe we weren’t as lonely as our insecurities and high school bullies made us feel.

“You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” by Bachman-Turner Overdrive
