“You Might Think” by The Cars from ‘Heartbeat City’

This polished and bright new wave rock song from The Cars had that mall-friendly sound that made it a go-to for shopping center speakers back in the day. “You Might Think” by The Cars was very of its time. However, it was “mild” enough to be suitable for airplay at a place like a mall. This delightful track made it to No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 7 on the Hot 100.

“Sister Christian” by Night Ranger from ‘Midnight Madness’

But it definitely played on repeat in edgier stores within. “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger is a classic glam metal track that hit the airwaves in early 1984. And it was the band’s biggest hit, reaching No. 5 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Canadian charts. If you ever watched a sibling or loved one grow up too fast, this one probably resonated with you.
